72How to Build a Garden Swing and Arbor in 3 Easy Steps
If you are like me, sitting in a quiet corner of the garden on a warm summer evening is as good as it gets. The best place to sit and enjoy all the plants and landscaping is my custom Garden Swing and Arbor I built myself. Please continue to read this article, so you too can discover how 3 easy steps to building your own favorite place to spend a quiet evening are unbelievably rewarding.
How to Build Plans, Garden Swing and Arbor in 3 Easy Steps
1. Selecting The Best Location
* Quiet and private, a location away from the hustle and bustle of a busy street or any area accessed by the public is the best spot.
* Comfortable, when we are looking to pamper ourselves the last thing on our minds is putting up with some sort of nonsense; the sun in our eyes, the neighbor’s barking dog, screaming kids come to mind. Insulate yourself from distractions by using carefully placed plantings and privacy fences.
* Seek the high ground; for anyone that enjoys walking in a depression filled with water from a summer rain, you can over look this little tad bit of information. For the rest of us however, build your swing and walkways on the higher ground and avoid soaked muddy feet.

2. Selecting The Best Style and Design
* Inspiration comes from anywhere you find it. A favorite chair, daybed or park bench whatever is the most comfortable for you. The important thing is do not sacrifice your comfort for something that looks good but sits badly. After all, you are going to spend a lot of quality relaxation time lounging in it.
* For a traditional looking design, select a style for your swing and arbor to match your existing elements in your landscape theme; rustic with rustic, formal with formal.
* For the eclectic style, consider your surroundings for creative design inspiration; recycle an old park bench, reuse an old swing set or build your own creation using recycled materials. The important thing to remember is have fun and be creative, let your personality influence your design.

3. What You Will Need
* A plan, regardless of weather you are building from a kit or a set of DIY plans. You will need to establish your goals. For instance, day one set a goal of getting the building site ready. Start by digging the holes for the support posts and set the posts in them.
* Tools, you will need a few basic hand and power tools; a hammer, assorted screw drivers, adjustable or socket wrenches, slip joint pliers, a 4 foot level, spade or shovel, post hole digger, an electric drill with assorted drill bits and a saw.
* A helper, enlist the help of your fellow neighborhood gardeners. The only thing better than enjoying the rewards of all your labor is sharing them with your neighbors, besides a little showing off never hurt anyone.

This is a great swing, I'd love to have one in my side or front yard. I have one in the back but spend more time out front watching the kids play endlessly in the summer. This garden swing would be great! Thanks and Peace :)
TEd - what a nice addition to a garden! It looks so pleasant, to swing quietly outside. Seems like the perfect project, as long as you have an assistant.
you make it look as if even I could do it!! great article!! bb
